H-town knows where it's at

During the Blizzard of '09, some people got creative and graffitied the snow ;)

Also here are some promised pictures from the lights down in City Park.

Oh and my lovely roommate made it on to our family tree :) (this ornament was from freshman year. Marie was going to throw it away but I said I would take it).

Happy New Year! I hope you guys had a wonderful year and are looking forward to the new one.

So this is Christmas....and the days that follow

So for reals, I would like to say I really like Christmas time. It's been fun with all the parties, decorations, food, family, friends, and lights. But in all seriousness, it's definitely a good reminder to know that God sent his only son as a baby who grew up and died for our sins so we could be reconciled to God. These are a couple pictures to recap all the events. More to come next time (who knows when that will be)

They just look so Christmasy in their PJ's

Our hall made a ton of snowflakes. So fun. There was this one girl who made some incredible ones but for some reason I didn't get any photos of them.

She went out to Encounter (the worship service) like this. I thought it was great.

We got 15-18 inches of snow and had to shovel the entire driveway so my brother could go to work. My mom helped. They are calling this the Blizzard of 09 since we haven't had this much snow since '95. Yes, I know the year because we had to go to Saturday school because we missed so much school.Before....

After....my poor little car....

has it really been that long?

Dear Katie (and any other faithful blog checker that is often disappointed),
I am sorry that checking my blog is now part of your daily routine even though I haven't updated this thing in over a week. If you could ever forgive me for that, you would be the best person ever.
Until I come up with something else.
sincerely yours,
Dottie

7 quick takes

1. This has been the week of spontaneity. Fake tattoos, dance parties, snl clips, and singing parties. To complete this week of impulsiveness, 6 of us went to Hamburg on Thursday when we were all done with everything. It was awesome. We even stopped at Steak n Shake on a whim because it was "Happy Hour" so shakes were half off. So we all got huge shakes even though we didn't need it just because it was half off. We then drove over to all the shops and stayed in the car to belt out Mariah Carey's "Always be my baby" because it came on my ipod. Then we went shopping and all bought "Happy Halloween 2009" shirts from Old Navy for 47 cents. I mean who doesn't want a matching Happy Halloween shirt at Christmas time?

2. Our last night at Asbury was filled with watching "Spring Break Shark Attack." A t.v. movie that Marie and Taylor had ordered online freshman year. This movie really lives up to it's tag line of " This year, spring break really bites" with fake sharks, blood, and harpoon wounds. Us girls try to watch it at the end of each semester so this year we watched it with the boys and they loved it. Haha it was so funny. I don't think there was hardly a time when we were actually watching the movie and not adding our two cents.

3. Past midnight runs to Mcdonalds simply because we're thirsty and can are the best.

4. I might have drank too much of my soda on the way home and not had anywhere to stop for an uncomfortably long time. Then I might have gotten confused and took the wrong interstate 70 exit and ended up in PA. But hey I went through 4 states (not 3) yesterday, how many did you go through?

5. I was hungry last night so my mom and I ordered pizza. On the way to go get it we went by City Park and it was awesome. I've never noticed that they put up lighted objects like skating bears, firetrucks, and Christmas trees right on the pond. It looks so cool especially with the reflection off the water. I'll take pictures when the the foot of snow we're getting right now melts.

6. Last night, a certain sister of mine was borrowing my dress for a wedding and needed a sweater to go with it. So we went to a friend's house, who lives in a nearby neighborhood. We were quietly catching up on life on the front porch for a while texting the girl inside because her parents were already asleep. I already thought we looked ridiculous whispering in the dark while it was snowing and wondering why it was taking the girl so long. I mean we were on her porch for 15 minutes. Then a strange car pulled up and these people walked up to us and asked who we were. They didn't know us and we didn't know them (never a good sign). "Um, I think you have the wrong house," the lady tells us. (yeah well I think you have the wrong house is what I wanted to say back but am so glad I didn't). " Who are you looking for?" she asks and when we told her she points to the house next door. Wow wow wow, how embarrassing. The girl we were looking for was right there by the door waiting for us. Haha good one.

7. It's so good to be home. We were all laughing, eating pizza, and talking last night. Then my brother and I played music, sang, and then talked until 4 am. So fun. And today we have a SNOW DAY. I love it.

Blurry eyes

I was reading a story and the character talked about getting 8 hours of sleep. I wanted to cry because I've gotten about that in the last two days combined.... I then looked again and saw the book didn't even say that haha the character just mentioned getting good rest. Good one tired eyes and hurting brain.

Oh what is it about finals week that makes people go crazy? I walk into the unit to find my hall putting fake tattoos on each other. After we did that, four of us split a load of laundry because we were out of the necessities and then played follow the leader all the way up the stairs.
I just looked up "tattoos" to find a cool picture and found a lot of gross ones. Tats can be real gross. Anyways, I'm going to continue studying Español.

this is kind of a cool tattoo...

It might be finals week....

beautiful photo by Kate Powers- one of my new favorite photographers.

Here's to hangouts, eating out 5 times this weekend, 2 movies, sleeping in and taking naps, catching up, going to Christmas programs, painting my nails, downloading cds, tangoing, watching snl, facebook and checking my e-mail, blogging, Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson sing-a-longs, dancing to free world music mixes from Itunes, and anything else to keep me from starting to study for my finals this week. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

7 quick take Thursday

1. My hall is blowing up balloons for each final we have and then we get to pop them when that final is over. It's really fun and just makes our hall look that much better

Apparently my suitemates have a lot of finals. Sorry that everything is backwards but you get the idea.

2. Two of my fellow workers at the Luce Center decided to give my number to the creepy pool guy as a practical joke. He runs a massage business on the side so they told him that I wanted a massage. This was all unknown to me so it was really awkward when he called me the next day.

3. When it's cold outside, Marie always compares our weather conditions to the weather conditions of Yellow Knife, Canada. Then it doesn't seem too bad. Today it was 21 degrees with a wind chill of 8. Yellow Knife was -27. I'm okay with 21 degrees.

1st pic- I don't know if You can see the temperature but it says about -37. That sucks... just sayin
2nd picture- bizarre crash that supposedly happened in Yellow knife.
and
3rd picture- the only reason I would want to go to Yellow Knife, ever. No, not because of the teepees but because of the Northen Lights. They look awesome.

4. Lots of freshman girls swoon over all the athletic boys. They stalk them, look good whenever they go to the Luce, check c-po multiple times a day, and eat certain foods in the caf so that they can be behind a certain guy in line. Believe me I know... I was one of those girls. Anyways the point is I have a solution for them. They should just work at the Luce where the boys come and talk to you instead of you having to come up with something retarded to say to them. Haha one of the many benefits of working at the Luce.

5. I had the potential to go to 3 Christmas parties tonight... I've already been to 2 this week and have another one on Saturday. I'm not mad. I love Christmas and all that goes along with it. Tonight we're having a formal Christmas party at Holland's apartment. Should be fun. I'm going to wear a dress that Katelyn got for me at target for $21 :)

6. The Luce has been insane this week. I've been yelled at by an angry customer, asked out, had my number given out, and found the creepy mannequin in the laundry hamper. Little boys have thrown up, toliets have overflowed, thought an old man was an old woman, and realized a lady was charged too much for a membership and had to run after her to make her aware of this.

7. Last day of classes tomorrow... but I'm skipping Chapel, my 11'clock was moved to 3 because our Spanish class is meeting at a Spanish restaurant to practice ... you guessed it... Spanish, and I don't have to go to my 2'clock. So really tomorrow is going to be awesome because I got nothing!

Old Fashion Christmas

Wilmore Old Fashion Christmas might be my favorite event that this small little town puts on... well actually it's the only event they put on but that's another story. Every year on the first Saturday in December, Wilmore closes Main street from 5:30 ish - 8 and everyone watches the tree be lit, walks the streets, and stops in all the little shops to receive Christmas treats. I actually have never seen the tree be lit but I'm sure that it's cool. It's a really fun social event because so many different people come: people from the community, seminary, and both past and present college students and faculty. We actually went later this year so I didn't get a chance to get hot chocolate from Sims Drugs Store, which was sad but I still got to see lots of people and then sing carols in the Methodist Church. All-in-all it was pretty fun.

A lot of the girlies and my small group leader :)

Monday morning goodness

I'm going to delay the Piano Pants project until later this week because I didn't feel like writing about that today.

This morning I woke up to the glorious smell of cinnamon and discovered that my hall's SLA (a.k.a spiritual life assistant- each hall has a person who leads weekly Bible studies and prays for the hall- the Ra's counterpart.) had made the whole hall cinnamon rolls. She had even put our names on toothpicks to stick into each individual cinnamon roll. It was such an amazing surprise. I don't know about everyone else but having someone think of me enough to get up early and make me a cinnamon roll is enough to make my day. I am truly appreciative of Anna (our SLA). She is so kind, thoughtful, and has such a big servant's heart.

Piano Pants Project: Round 3

Guess what. It's time for another piano pants participate.
It's amazing how many people can fit in these pants. I'm not even close to being mad at that fact. Whoever made these pants were amazing.

Person 3 is Katelyn. She is amazing: so full of life and joy. She is my personal bucket of sunshine. Just look at her hair. That blonde bombshell reminds me of all things happy and joyous. Speaking of hair, she is now officially a brunette. In fact she inspired me and 4 others to dye their hair today. Don't ya just love college?
Anyways, back to Katelyn. She is so sweet and always thinks of others. She is smart, considerate, and my gansta buddy and dancing partner.... but of course we don't dance at Asbury where there is no dancing allowed.....haha... I love you Katelyn and am so glad that we are friends.

look at that roomie love :)

Door Knob Lock

Dear little door knob lock,
I know in the past years, we haven't been as close as we should have been but I want to thank you for your help this weekend.Thank-you for helping save my dignity this weekend from curious kids peeping into the bathroom. Thanks for saving me the worry... But I do have one thing to say. What was with you getting stuck every time I tried to get out of the bathroom. It wasn't nice. I didn't like worrying that I was going to be stuck in the bathroom indefinitely without my phone while everyone was far away downstairs. You just wanted to see if anyone would actually hear me if I yelled, well I didn't like it. I've had some close calls this weekend and I know you're old but I just needed some extra help with all the kiddies in town.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Deej

p.s. In case you were wondering door knob lock, I got back safely and the ride was very uneventful but we made very good time. The boys took turns sleeping or singing along with me to songs like "Kiss the Girl" by Ashley Tisdale or "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls. I think they secretly liked it haha

p.s.s I'll be back soon so I hope you and I can have a better relationship over Christmas break.

Good One

I was told to make cookies tonight. I mixed up the batter and discovered that the batter didn't taste good at all. Well, actually not me but Amy who was snitching some of the batter. Strike one.

I tried to make these cupcakes (Vanilla Pumpkin Cupcakes). Both the cake part and the frosting called for 2 sticks of butter of softened butter. When I had finished making the cupcakes and was making the frosting, I went to soften the butter for the frosting and found the sticks of butter for the cupcakes still in the microwave. (I will not make fun of my mom for being absent-minded anymore) Strike two.

I finished making the frosting and tasted it and didn't like it at all. I had used mom's "bad" vanilla from Mexico and it's way too strong. Strike three.

The Real Thanksgiving.

Black Friday might be my favorite day of the year. And no it's not because of the crazy people waking up early for "good" deals and ridiculously long lines. It's because ,unlike the rest of America who pigs out on ridiculously good food the day before, our family has our Thanksgiving every year the day after. As we've gotten older, this has become the only day of the year that we get together (and even that isn't always guaranteed). I wish you guys could see what it's like at a family dinner. There are at least 3 adult conversations going on and all the kids talking at the same time. It's craziness but it's worth it for all the good company and the wonderful food. I think I could blog about all the interesting conversations that went on or funny inside jokes for a month but it just wouldn't be the same. So I'll just show you some pictures from the day.

I've gotten to spend a lot of time in the last couple days with this cool kid (my only brother). We've changed so much that now we're actually friends instead of trying to kill each other. It's really fun. We jammed in his car on the way to my Grandma's yesterday and it made the trip go so fast. He even called me today to tell me to get my camera because the sky looked awesome and he was picking me up in a minute. He's so cool.

This chica is one of my many nieces. Ainsley so sweet and cute. She told me, " You very silly, Aunt DJ." She also told me that she wanted to play with "Baby Ryan" but he wasn't there (he's actually still in the hospital). So I offered to play with her. She said, "Okay but you have to play for a very long time."

The sweet potato casserole that I have been craving for days, not only met expectations but went way beyond. (And yes, I am eating out of the pan with a little kid's spoon. Don't judge the college student.)

I wish I had at least one more photo that I could show you of the whole family but for some reason we didn't take one this year :( I guess we'll have to wait until next year.

It's Thanksgiving...

so be happy and thankful. (doesn't your mouth just water at the sight of these good looking cupcakes? I wish I had made them)
I'm about to leave for my grandma's where I will have dinner 8 other people. I hope it's fun.
Anyways, I'm thankful for all the people in my life. I'm thankful for Asbury, my house, and my sleeper pajamas. I'm also thankful for my little nephews who woke me up this morning with their cute little voices. Okay I have to get ready so we're not late. I don't want to feel grandma's wrath.

Piano Pants Project: Round 2

Participant number 2 is my dear mother. Madre de siete niños. She is a strong woman to raise all of us especially because of our family circumstances. I know my mom gets a lot of crap from different people but she is a truly amazing woman. I look up to her and acknowledge all that she has done/does for my family. This Thanksgiving, I realized I am more and more thankful for her. She's not perfect, but then again who is?

Thanks Mom!

G baby love

I've never been on a blind date but today sure felt like one. Two single people, who had never met, forced to be in the same place for an extended span of time. Asking the typical "getting to know you" questions and feeling carefree because the other person doesn't know anything about you. Before today I even had many people give me pointers and tips to keep it from being awkward.
"Ask him about the NBA and he'll talk forever."
" Put on rap music and he'll be chill."
"Put the divider down in the middle of the seat so that he can't sit next to you."
"I'll tell him to be nice to you."

All of these statements made me feel semi-confident about today's event. Ha The only problem is this wasn't a blind date. It was me giving a ride home to a friend of a boy who lives semi-near me. So definitely a potentially awkward situation because g-baby thought the trip was going to be 4-5 hrs when in reality it was 8-9.

All in all, he was really mellow. Kind crazy, I know because if you saw this guy at a basketball game you would call me a liar but for reals I'm telling the truth.
Hour 7 was the test of our newly found friendship when a 18 wheeler tried to come into our lane, we drove through the worst fog I've ever seen and he helped me know where to go by looking at the gps, and my ipod froze twice and we thought we would be forced to listen to country music for the remainder of the trip. Anyways, I'm not even mad I gave him a ride and would much rather give him a ride in the future then give his friend .
End of story.

Little letters

Dear School,
I refuse to do anything that is related to you right now.

Dear Marie,
I'm listening to you sing John Elton... I'm not even mad.

Dear Swine Flu,
you better not come back in full swing in January.

Dear Rainy day,
I really wanted to take advantage of the lack of light today and take a nap but I didn't get to. The point is Rainy day, I'm asking if you'll come back at a more convenient time. Thanks.

Dear G-baby,
I'm awaiting your call and dreading our ride together tomorrow even though I think it's going to be okay.

Dear Sweet-potato casserole,
I can't wait for you to be in my belly.

Dear sleep,
I can't wait to get more of you.

Dear Family,
Can't wait to see you... well most of you that is. Haha.

Dear Friends,
I love you lots and am sad we'll be apart. But I know we'll have fun separately.

Dear I.D. card of Marie,
is that all you had, hiding in between our beds? thought you could hide from us so that she wouldn't be able to do anything related to Asbury, did you? well we got the best of you.

Dear Internet,
I don't know what's wrong with you but please work.

Spontaneity is the spice of life. I'm not doing anything right now that I originally planned and it's awesome. In fact I'm blogging from marie's I phone in the movie theater. Hope you had a lovely nappy Sunday, I know I did.

Go Big Blue

ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh C-A-T-S. CATS, CATS, CATS.

Marie and I had the opportunity to go to a Cats basketball game today. It was so fun. Even though they were playing a team no one has ever heard of (Rider), the stadium was full of people who just love UK baskeball. Marie was sitting next an old guy who yelled at this one particular ref the whole time. It was hilarious. He would yell such things as "Higgins, ya old goat. Go collect your social security check. You're 95, you're too old to be on the court. You North Carolina lover, you're useless." Even his wife got into it. We beat the team by almost 30 points. Didn't matter though to the "Higgins" hater

The game was an experience and one that I've wanted to have since I arrived here at Asbury. This has been on my list for a while so I'm happy to be able to cross it off.
My next mission is to be able to sit in the student center. This is a nearly impossible task for someone who isn't a UK student but I'm going to see if I can make it happen.

Oh Friday

Okay so this is getting harder and harder, especially when I keep forgetting to write it early on in the day instead of cramming before midnight.
Today was hard to function after 3 1/2 hrs of sleep. Everything seemed 10x longer and harder to do. I couldn't really talk haha but nothing was as bad as the awkward moment at lunch. Our newer friend (Adam) sat with us at lunch and the guy next to him(Jared) asked him if he was engaged yet. Adam responded with, " to who? the girlfriend I haven't had for 4 months?"
The other guy: "Oh I guess I haven't talk to you since then."
ouch
guess you had to be there but so awkward.

7 quick take Thursday

(this image doesn't really have anything to do this post but I just like it)

1. Jon Weece (from Southland Christian Church) spoke in chapel yesterday and it was so good. He didn't mess around at all, he just got up there and went straight into his message. It was such a good reminder about the crucifixion of Christ. I feel like we only have those types of messages at Easter so I'm glad that he shared that with us yesterday.

2. My friends and I are going to the midnight showing of New Moon tonight and I am so excited. Even if a lot of people are giving us a hard time about it. When do you ever get to go to a movie about vampires at midnight? ...Well, other than last year and probably the next two years.

3. When I came to work yesterday, I was told to make sure and check the big dryer because it had towels in it needed for swimming practice. I was thinking about how we don't usually use the big dryer as I walked back to the laundry room to see if they were done and needed folded. I opened the dryer door and felt the towels and found they were damp. I was pulling the towels out when I saw a human head. Yeah, you read that right. I was shocked until I realized it was just a CPR dummy that my boss had put in there to scare me. It scared me alright but not as bad as the next girl. She screamed and then went and sat down and wouldn't go close to the dryer for at least 5 minutes.

4. I was at work today and this guy was behind my desk trying to do that soccer move when you step on the ball to roll it backwards and then kick it straight up (someone just told me it's called 'a rainbow'). However he was using a dodge ball and there wasn't very much room behind by desk. Needless to say, he didn't quite execute the move but instead tripped and fell into the file cabinet and then the swinging door. It was hilarious and I couldn't stop laughing which I'm sure didn't help his self-esteem. Even now I'm trying to hold back the laughter so that Marie and Katelyn won't think I'm weird.

5. Our Volleyball team (Boom Boom Pow) had our first game and it was so fun. Although for some reason I kept rotating at the wrong time and actually tried to rotate myself out 4 times in a row. Whoops...

6. It was 2:13 and I was still in my room despite my class starting at 2:10. So I ran out into the unit and yelled bye to the freshies as I ran out. But then I realized I had forgotten something in my room so I ran back through the unit passing Lauren running to class. I got what I needed out of my room and ran back out almost running into Lauren who had also forgotten something. The freshmen just all laughed at us crazy upperclassmen.

7. For Thanksgiving break, I may be giving a ride home to two of the most obnoxious and random people at Asbury. One was the only one without a shirt on at the Homecoming game and the other one calls himself "G-baby". It's probably going to be hilarious.

Complexity

i lost... okay so I thought I lost at this NaBloPloMo thing but I didn't. Crisis adverted.

Anyways, I'm just dealing with finding balance. I feel like it's hard to find balance especially right now in this time of my life. When to say something, when to keep my mouth shut, when to care and when to just let it roll off my back. When to go out with friends and when to say back and do homework or actually sleep. The line from the Taylor Swift song, Breathe, "we know it's never simple, never easy" keeps going through my head.Sometimes I just wish it was a little simpler but I guess life never really is.

p.s. thank-you google for that very complex image

Praying

It's hard to complain when you pray just to thank God for things and don't ask for anything. Hard to do but also really good. I don't really have time tonight but maybe I'll "enlighten" you tomorrow.

Piano Pants Project

This a project I thought about starting 3 months ago. Remember when I found these pants in my closet back in August? My sisters use to wear them all the time even though I'm pretty sure they were never in style. Well, my project was to see how many people I could get a picture of wearing the pants. I'm convinced that these pants are like the sisterhood of the traveling pants where no matter who it is they fit each person. Here to prove that point is my first victim, er I mean participant.

Harley Benjamin Day IV (Or has we all call him, "Buck")
He has been married to my 4th sister, Chrissy for over 4 years. They coached my basketball team my junior and senior year of high school because we were so bad, they felt obligated. Or they love basketball and wanted be involved in my and the other girls' lives. Either way it was fun to hang out with them all the time and actually be good at basketball.
I'm actually surprised he was willing to put on the pants and that they fit him because he's a guy and all. But fit them they did. I'm actually really proud of Buck because he lost over 50 pounds this summer and got back into shape. He did p-90x all summer and then a team triathlon a month ago. The guy who would eat a burger for an appetizer is now so disciplined. Way to go, Buck. I'm glad I get to see him in just over a week.

Church

So my roomie and I went to church at Southland today and were challenged by Jon Weece to pray, sing, and mediate for 7 days.

Pray a simple pray from his blog or your own. Go on a 15 minute prayer walk and don't ask for anything. Just simply thank God for any and everything.

Sing a joyful noise unto the Lord. And his big challenge (to me) was to listen to only Christian/worship music all week. No Taylor Swift, Ben Rector, or T-pain for me. The pastor even said he would put some songs on his blog so that we would have some new songs to listen to.

Meditate on verses every day. He is going to post verses everyday on his blog.

Marie and I were talking after the service and just saying how a lot of people give Southland crap for being a mega church and what all comes along with that but really Southland is doing a lot for people. If people actually go along with this all week, it will be about 10,000 people praying the same praying, abstaining from secular music, and mediatating on the same verses everyday. That's cool to think about. Also Southland may spend a lot of money to keep their property going but they also give a lot of money away. They just bought a single mom a car so she wouldn't have to walk to her many jobs and could get her kids to school. They also gave money to an elderly lady so she could get hearing aids and move into a better apartment. In doing that, the lady was out signing a lease when her old apartment burned down. She never would have heard the fire alarm without her hearing aids. So she was saved on both accounts. I just think it's really cool how they are trying to impact the people of Lexington and surrounding towns.

On a different note, I just learned that my mom accidentally backed over our really old cat. Although I feel bad for my mom, it's ironic how everyone has threatened to kill the cat and my mom always was on his side and then she was the one who killed him.

blah blah blah

Adios.

That's all folks.

So I got sick today and skipped everything but it was great because a visitor sat in my chapel seat and my 2'clock was cancelled. Yay, God loves me. Also I went to Target twice. The second time was to buy a movie we really wanted to watch and also to buy a jacket that one of my friends walked out without paying for haha it was hilarious.

7 quick take Thursday

(I couldn't find a picture to really go with this post so I just got one of how I feel.)

1. I randomly thought about how Hosea felt when God told him to marry a prostitute. Did he have another girl in mind or high hopes for his future wife? Did he fight with God over the issue or just accept it? I think I would have fought it.

2. My roommate and I are getting sick. I hope we don't have the swine. Although I kind of want to have the swine enough to be quarantined in my room and be able to take lots of naps and watch movies all day. But I don't want to feel awful for days. Is this possible?

3. Marie and I re-arranged our room so that we now have one huge bed vs. two abnormally sized twin beds. Now I want to sleep more than ever but for some reason can never fall asleep when I try.

4.The refrigerator is so high right now that my ginger ale is a little icy. I just tried to spell refrigerator with a "d" before the "g" and realized that I always thought it was spelled that way.

5. I'm eating popcorn in my room, which reminds me of all the times I ate popcorn as a kid. Basically every night, My mom would make popcorn and we would all gather around the table and talk. Now even when I go home, it's fun when everyone comes over and we eat popcorn together.

6. i miss florida warmth. I don't know how I'll survive Kentucky January-March. Those are the God-forsaken months of continuous precipitation and morning death marches to class.

7. my uncle sent me homework... i actually meant to say money but i got a little distracted. Anyways i really needed it and didn't expect it at all. So it was really nice.

Holy Discomfort

Today was Student Chapel. I love these chapels because you get to hear from your peers and it's usually more applicable to your life. Also it makes me feel closer to the student body when a student shares than we anyone else preaches/shares. The theme of chapel this year is Holy Discomfort. I was really convicted today with the testimonies of the two people in chapel in that I've given in to comfort instead of having discomfort for the Lord. I've either been tempted or actually given up on tough friendships this semester. It's hard to be nice to the cynical and miserable people that were once your friends. It's hard to love them like Jesus would and not give up or talk about them. It's hard to continually see through their facade and rude behavior and see the hurting and wounded person beneath who just needs the love of Jesus. This is what Jesus has been impressing upon my heart this week and it's a hard thing to swallow but with his help I'll try.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." Mark 12:30-31

"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." Gal. 2:20

"You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." 1 Cor 6: 19b-20
