7 quick lists

1. I realized the other day that I have a hidden prejudice against March. Every birthday that has come across my calendar, I have thought, "Oh I thought their birthday was in February or April." I guess subconsciously I refuse to believe anyone was born in March which a weird thing to think in the first place.

2. I have been very absent-minded lately.
 For example:
 a. I missed my exit to work because I zoned out and just forgot to get over. I didn't realize until after I was passed my exit.
 b. I sent a package to my two nieces that do in fact have birthdays in March ( I did remember those) but after taping up the package, I found the card. (and you may notice, I forgot how to spell Autumn?)

c. Maybe the worst of the examples and maybe a little TMI but I got to church and realized I didn't have a bra on????? I am a girl- that's a numero uno of clothing items. Something I shouldn't have to think about. I have no idea how that happened.

3. Adam and I got to check in on this little cutie this past weekend for a friend of ours who was out of town. It was really fun ;) She was very playful and happy that we came over.

4. I've been doing little design projects lately for various people. Here is what I have been working on.

Early stages of a church logo (the idea is that the people of the church lead people to the cross-- hence the compass with the cross being central):

a Fantasy Football logo (the guy's last name is giuffre (sounds like joe-free) so he took the golden gopher's name and logo and had me tweak it so he could be the golden giuffers (joe-fers)

My blog obviously.

and the Provost Report for IWU (where I used to work)- This was a report that had a lot of information but was still desired to look academic. I tried to make it clean, professional but still have a little fun factor.

Every since, I saw sites like Katie Daisy, I've been vibing on hand lettering-- fun types of handwriting. I want to get better but it's fun so far.

5. Yesterday was the first day of spring but up here in the North, Winter is clinging on for dear life. Remember back when, I told winter to bring it on? That was in soft oh so mild January. Well, I lied winter. I don't want you to bring it on. February brought snow showers and March is bringing on the low temperature. We're in the teens for the foreseeable future with wind chills dipping into the negatives. boo! I want Spring right about now. I'm not complaining... I just want to see things growing. Spring is my favorite part of the year and I could see that being mushed together with summer. Oh well!

6. Adam and I have been going for the newlywed nine (yes, it's a real thing but no, we're not doing it on purpose) so I pulled the trigger and order turbofire. It's expensive but this is a 20 wk workout schedule with 12 different workouts to spice it up. I have never felt so in shape. I did it last year with my roommate and loved it. They are hard workouts and you often feel stupid doing the moves but it's good. You're working hard and aren't bored sitting on a stationary bike, elliptical, or running on the treadmill (this is all our little apt workout room has and I am bored to death when I "workout"). It's supposed to come in soon and I am pumped!

7. Speaking of something coming in soon, our couch is being delivered in a few short weeks! Now we can have people sit on real things vs. soccer mom chairs. We're so excited, we're going to have a couch warming party hehe

Happy Thursday. Hope it's Spring where you live.

7 Quick Lists

1. My mom celebrated her birthday over the weekend to round out the family/friends birthdays to six in the last week (Today is Adam's friend's birthday and Adam's cousin's birthday as well). I didn't realize February was his family's month while August is ours. I'm so proud of my mom and thankful for her and that she found a man that she is happy with. It's nice to see her relax and happier these days ;) Love you Mom!

2. Today is my first day at Kohl's. I'm excited for the opportunity, to meet new people, to stay in my field, and cash flow never hurts. Let's hope the first day goes well!

3. This past week, Adam and I were hard at work on some projects around the apartment. Can't wait to show you guys when we finish them up.

4. We hung out with some friends on Saturday, watched the Marquette game (pretty boring-- those guys needs to learn how to score), and went to a new restaurant. Our friends split a meter of beer. It was cool when they brought it out and they seemed to really enjoy it. (Adam and I aren't big fans of beer which is weird to everyone everywhere but especially here because it's brew city-- so many local breweries!)

5. I went to four grocery stores on Sunday in the name of saving money. I don't think I will ever do that again because a) one of the stores is Target because they have great deal on groceries but b) they also have great deals on everything else I love so the money I "save", I spend on other things and c) you lose so much time going to that many stores that I'm not sure it's worth it. Couponing on the other hand, I could see being very addicting and beneficial. Maybe I'll just do that next time instead.

6. I taught Sunday School to two high school sisters yesterday. Big Lol. I don't think it went very well. They are not very talkative and the lesson was.very.short. On the other hand, Adam was the greeter and was not only cute but very good at it. He even dressed up to be the greeter. He looked good.

7. One of Adam's friends who will not be named gives the worst compliments... at least I think that is what he was trying to do. He said, "Dottie, I usually think bangs on girls are the worst possible decision they can make. I think they look awful. (long pause, lots of crickets and gasps from the girls across the table) But I specifically like yours" "Um, thanks?" It kind of felt like an insult sugar coated with an compliment but also gave us lots of fuel to make fun of him all night lol We laughed a lot about that all night.

How was y'all's weekends?

6 Quick Lists

1. Add 3 packages to this pile and you have how many packages the guy in front of me at the Post Office wanted to send. Lucky for me they opened up another line.

2. They're not kidding when they say Cutco knives are sharp. Wowza, this was after I tried to get it to stop bleeding and had wrapped it in a bandaid and a tissue. (sorry for those of you with weak stomachs)

3. Tasha had a groupon coupon for 2 drinks (latte, tea, italian soda) and 2 large bowls of gelato so she invited me to go along. We probably could have invited a few more people. Too much sugar for one person but oh so good. I had tiramisu (my fav), coconut, and snickers (which I wouldn't recommend). Then I had to navigate from the red dot to the blue dot during rush hour. If the highway was clear it would have taken me around 20 minutes... it took more like 45 to get home but I counted it all for exploring and learning the city better.

4. Happy Valentine's Day. We are curling tonight and then going out of town tomorrow so Adam spontaneously asked if I wanted a late dinner with him last night after his class. I never say no to dates. We tried a new Italian place and split a meal. It was yummy!

Then today we had BOGO Caribou drinks. My favorite coffee chain. (If you have a Q doba in your area, they are doing a BOGO deal as well. You just have to kiss someone (usually your loved one but you could give a peck to the person behind you in line as well if that is your thing)).
 5. I had a coupon to Fab.com for Valentine's day so I bought a new calendar for my desk at my new job. I love Rifle Paper Co. (You can find their stuff online, select paper stores, and Anthropologie as well) so when I saw their stuff was on sale and I had a coupon, I justified the splurge. I am so thrilled. Fab's packaging was cute with the "Hi" message instead their box and the calendar came with it's own decorative box that I am going to use for storage. Luhooove it!

6. Speaking of new job, I got the Kohl's opportunity. It was supposed to start this Monday but has been delayed by a week. I'm excited for the opportunity to meet new people, stay in my field, and have consistent work for a few months at least. They said they hope for this position to become full-time eventually so that's good too.

7 things ( but really four)

1.  Foodies
Adam and I want to try all kinds of different restaurants around here. More hole in the walls vs chains but really we just want to explore our new city.
First on our list was Ian's. They sell pizza by the slice but their choices are not normal (seems to be a theme in Milwaukee, different menus). Adam got Philly Cheesesteak Pizza and I just got Feta, Tomato, and Spinach but are some of our choices were Cordon Bleu, Mac and Cheese, Lasagna, andBBQ. It was fun. We ate our pizza which was pretty good and then played some cards. We really like the card book we got near Christmas from Pottery Barn. We played Bezique and I surprisingly won. I just happened to get the rare double Bezique (Jack of diamonds, Queen of Spades times two) that gave me 500 points and allowed me to win hehe

2. The Mugs

My sister, Amy, had the idea to have my family get me mugs or items from the city where they are from since Adam and I are now living away from them. These small tokens remind me of my family members when I see them. I think it was a fantastic idea. Most of my family gave me mugs (some got broken on the flights out here ;( ) but some gave ornaments for our Christmas tree. It was so thoughtful.
I got this one in the mail this weekend. I love it.

Since I have moved from Maryland, I really miss how good the crab is. This cup brings back so many good memories from Family vacations. I'm so excited to use it for hot cocoa ;)

3. The Weather
The weather is getting more Wisconsin-ish which I'm not exactly opposed too. I want to see what makes Milwaukee winter so awful. Everywhere I have moved as of late is always warmer than what everyone else says is the normal. I moved to Kentucky. Record high heat and it was hot the whole time I lived there. I moved to Indiana. Mild winter. Hardly any snow at all and then a weird warm streak in March. Now I'm on to Milwaukee where there is so much complaint about the winter and everyone talks about how good the summer is. We'll see. So far the winter is just as mild as last year.

Freezing rain is on my tires.

4. For King and Country
I am a huge fan of this band. Good design. Great message. I heard them on the local Christian radio station but have since been listening to them and like a number of their songs such as The Proof of Your Love, Light it up, Middle of your Heart, and Fine, Fine Life.  I read briefly about the story behind the Light it up song. The brothers, who make up the band, had a friend who was depressed and would just stay in his house in the dark. He was hopeless. They wrote the song because they wanted to let their friend know he was worth it and that there was hope. I thought it was a really sweet story.

My four things are so long and I can't really think of three more, so I'm just going to call it a day.

Anyone been eating at new places or listening to new music?

7 quick take Thursday

Okay so I know it's not Thursday but I've been busy.

1
Last weekend, I traveled home from Leighann's a different way just so I could go to Forever 21. Yeah I'm crazy especially because I had to pay $1.25 total for 2 separate tolls (which I didn't really have). I had borrowed 50 cents from Leighann but I didn't know about the second toll and ended up paying 60 cents (of the 75 cent toll) in pennies. Needless to say everyone was mad and were honking their horns. haha

2
My dog apparently likes corn. I helped my mom freeze 50 ears of corn and basically the whole time, the dog sat and begged for me to give him some. But the really dumb thing was that he's now deaf so I kept yelling for him to go lay down and he wouldn't even move an inch. Finally when I was cleaning up, I put like 5 pieces of corn on his food and he ate the whole plate of food that he didn't want to touch before that. That's one way to get your dog to eat "his" food. (that last sentence sounds like something a mother would say about her "picky" eater except insert "child" in place of "dog". weird.)

3
My project for these 2 wks that I'm home is to clean out my closet because it is stuffed full of clothes that either don't fit or I don't like. (or one of my many sisters didn't like and just stuffed in there). So I started that project the first couple days and then.... kind of stopped. Yeah my room has looked like this for the last week. I should probably finish that before I leave.
4
I slept in until 12:37 one day this week. I have no idea how that happen. I don't even sleep that late in college. It was really weird. I woke up and knew it was late but I was thinking 10:30 or 11. It was such a shock to see 12:37. I was pretty rested but I hate feeling like I wasted my day. Also I couldn't fall asleep that night which is always a bummer.

5
I saw a car on the highway that looked like one of my friend's car so of course I sped to catch up (just in case). It was definitely not my friend but it did happen to be one of my old teachers from high school. Awkward. So I kept speeding so that they wouldn't know it was me. haha. I hope it worked or they'll just remember me as "the good student who speeds." But I guess that is typically of us "youngins" so who cares right?

6
I used cash for the first time in who knows how long it's been. It was weird to not have to sign anything when I was done paying for my items. I should probably do it more often.

7
Cleaning out my closet, helped me find the infamous piano jeans that my sisters wore. They are terrible. I don't even think they were instyle when they wore them. Well maybe they were but they shouldn't have been. They are so high-waisted, baggy, and have those awful piano keys. I don't know why my sisters wore them.Maybe they were just really dedicated to their piano playing and wanted to practice their hand formation at all hours of the day? Who knows but I'm definitely getting rid of those pants.
