Sorry

I shall blog for real soon but I just wanted to share this link of my family who was on the news. My little nephew, Ryan, just turned two on Saturday. Other than saying the last name wrong, it's an interesting little clip. Check it out.

Valentine's Day

I realized something this Valentine's Day, I love it! I love the day, the cheesy, hand-made notes, the flowers, the candy, mostly everyone's good moods and smiles (except for the few haters), the excuses to go over the top and the fact that no one questions it. I made heartshaped, unhealthly food all weekend for people and not one person questioned it when I said, "its because it's Valentine's Day weekend,". I wore bright pink tights today and and received handmade notes in my mailbox and people were happy about it. I love the excuse to be over the top. I hope everyone had a wonderful, day! It is always good to remember all the people you love and who love you and actually go through the motions of showing them :)

Throwing it back Old School

I should just be a secretary for the rest of my life. That's all I've done for the last 4 years at various places across campus. Anyways, my new gig is at the new media communications building helping out the professors. I really like it because I feel like I'm now friends with all of them so it makes it enjoyable helping them out with their various projects. The other day I got the opportunity to assemble a mannequin and dress him in the original Dean Jones jumpsuit from "Herbie the Lovebug". Dean Jones never graduated college but happen to go to Asbury for a short time so he gave us this suit from Disney. It was really cool. Disney even suggested what mannequin would be work the best

Fortunately, the corner where I work is surrounded by windows so when I had trouble getting him dressed, everyone could see me struggle getting the suit over his butt haha

The professor kept saying this should be my date for the night

There's props and costumes from all different movies, sports events, and shows in our new building usually from alums who have worked on the various sets. This is part of the Berlin Wall from 24 season 7. There's a lot of other cool stuff too.

quick list

Okay, Okay. I admit it. I'm a horrible blogger. I haven't blogged in almost 2 months even though numerous people (or maybe 3) have asked me to. So here is me, trying to let you know that I'm thankful you guys still care about me and read my blog.... or lack thereof.

Since my thoughts are so jumbled, I think I will just have to do a quick list to get me back into the blogging mode.

1. I played Sorry! and Monopoly with one of my nieces over break and despite my valiant efforts and occasionally cheating, I still lost. How do you consistently lose to a 6 yr old at games that have very little skill and are mostly dependent on luck? I thought that since I was older and clearly smarter that I would for sure win Monopoly but then those little dice would tell me to move my piece to the "Go to Jail" space and I would again have to try to roll doubles or pay to get out. Well wouldn't you know it, that every time I had to pay to get out and then my niece would win my money back when she landed on the "free parking space". And wouldn't you also know it, that one of the cards I drew said, "Let the person to your left send you to any space" and she chose to send me back to jail where the whole cycle began again. (insert sigh of frustration here) At least I still had some money so that when I landed on her block of spaces that already magically had multiple houses on them, I won't lose the game. . . this round, at least.

2. It was very good to see my family over break. I have realized that my time of being a "child" is almost up and that very soon I will have to be a real person with responsibility and a job. So until then I am trying to be intentional and enjoy my last semester of college.

3. I have checked my major/minor/general education requirements so many times in the last few weeks just to make sure that I will indeed graduate on time and haven't missed anything. I'm still good as of 5:00 today. I'm still scheduled to graduate in May haha

4. I am almost 100% healed from my tonsillectomy and feeling great. I didn't realize how much those things had sucked the energy out of my life. I had such a hard time getting up in the morning no matter how much sleep I had had. It was so hard to motivate myself to do anything that required getting off the couch. It was a chore just to make myself walk to class. I now feel great, I am back to exercising, and it's not that big of deal to do anything. And I'm eating real food again so I won't look so skinny. ( I know it's probably every girl's dream to lose 15 pounds but I'll have to admit, I don't like it)

5. Adam and I went to Red Lobster last night and ate some crab. Adam had never had crab so I was teaching him how to crack the legs open and get the meat out. It reminded me of all our family vacations in Fenwick Island. I know my details of those vacations are pretty vague but I just remember the brown paper, bowls of melted butter, and old bay seasoning on the table with pounds of crab in the middle that we cracked open with the crab crackers and hammers. I haven't done that in so long but it was really fun to think about it last night.

6. I have bought so many things on my "list of things I need" lately, that I don't know what to do with myself. I threw away some of my socks that were basically non-existent with holes in the toes, heals, and no elastic to keep them up and got rid of my gray i mean white camisole. I feel like I should have a party to commemorate me actually do things that needed to be done ages ago but then I don't know how I would invite people to it. Hey, I use things way past when they should be used but I've decided to turn over a new leaf and throw things away when they need to be thrown away and so I'm having a party, wanna come? I'll be baking lots of cakes with mixes that I bought 6 months ago and never made. Excited, yet?

7. I'm excited to A) go to my church tomorrow and B) that I still get another day to play and not do anything of importance :) Anyone else excited to have MLK day off?

8. I feel like God has been showing me that I'm not as perfect as I like to think I am. It's a humbly lesson that I probably should have learned a long time ago.

Roller Skating

Dear Chrissy,
I attempted to skate last night. I don't even remember the last time I went rollerskating, not rollerblading, but straight up four wheels in a square pattern rollerskating. It was really hard and scary. Oh also embarrassing that these little tiny kids were so good and skating in between people. They were amazing. I tried to mimick them and fell. Then I tried to just tell Adam what I did (not show him, mind you)and fell again. I wish I was good or had some good rollerblades. Anyways, I just wanted to tell you since you check my blog all the time and continue to procrastinate writing a 2-5 page essay in EspaƱol.

love,
dottie

Sorry

I know, I know.... I should have blogged about these pictures a very long time ago. These are from the last few days of the Alltech World Equestrian Games.

This was the president of the company's new golf cart.

Shout out to Abby who use to work at Alltech. She is my small group leader and happen to make this sign for some people at Alltech years ago. I found it still on one person's desk :)

I was sent to headquarters to get 5 boxes of U.S.A and France flags (the next World Equestrian Games will be in Normandy so there was a little celebration on the last day). This is how my car looked after man-handling them into the car.
My driving skills got a whole lot worse. I could only see out my window mirror.

I just thought this was an interesting door. It was really beautiful in person.

Q & A with little kids in the last few weeks

me: what's your favorite animal?
little boy: My favorite animal in real life is turtles but really my favorite animal is dragons.

me: What's your favorite color?
little girl: the rainbow plus turquoise. Is pink in the rainbow?
me: no.
l.g.: Oh then plus pink too.

At the local elementary school on the day we had a tornado warning
little boy: the wind is blowing so hard that so-and so just fell over haha
(me: really? I don't think that's very funny.... )

Kids do the darnest things

These are outside of the Alltech Experience.

The following conversation was overheard by my boss on the walkie talkies.

(sssskh) We've got kids climbing on the molecules (click)
(ssskh) What was that? (click)
(ssskh) Kids are climbing up the molecules (click)
(ssskh) You gotta get them off (click)
(ssskh) Yeah, we've got a molecule leaning. It wasn't leaning before but it's definitely leaning now (click)
(ssskh) Get them off! (click)
(ssskh) Can someone help him? (click)
(ssskh) Someone has got to make a sign (click)

Kids under 12 can get free general admissions with a paying adult. So our PR team has been calling schools and getting them to come by the bus full. We've probably had 15,ooo kids this week. It's crazy but now they don't climb the molecules :)
