Curling

This is the last week of curling for us because we aren't in the playoffs. boo! It's been really fun though.

I've had a lot of fun learning more about the sport. I hope to get involved in something else active with Adam. Maybe we'll get some bikes or I'll learn how to skate, water ski, dance, or sail, or maybe just run in a race. Who knows, the city offers so many possibilities. Now if it would just warm up!

Quick lists

1. Adam's dad called me last night just to say hi and make sure that Adam was treating me right. It was so nice. Of course, Adam is treating me right but it was very sweet of his dad to check up on me. I am truly blessed to be a part of his family.

2. I am finishing up the temp job in Kenosha tomorrow and I have an interview with Kohl's corporate today for a 6 month graphic design gig. We'll see how everything plays out. The Kohl's opportunity would be a little closer than the current one (10-20 minutes depending on traffic) and it would be longer term, which would be nice.

3. Thanks to Kate, I made this smoothie yesterday and luhoooved it! When I finished, I wanted to make another one right away. I hate spinach but you can't taste it in this smoothie at all (at least I didn't). It's healthy but doesn't taste that way. Next time, I'll either have to use less greek yogurt or use regular yogurt (which will make it a little less healthy) because that greek yogurt is strong. My stomach still hurts a little from it.

4. I got a new broom and slider for curling! I'm pumped. I got one with my membership to the curling club but it hadn't come in till this week. I had been using the Junior Curling supplies hehe There are playoffs tonight for Curling (our team didn't make it) and then the second part of the season starts next week. I'm not sure why it isn't one big season but I guess that's how the Curling world does it.

5. Adam's sister is coming this weekend to visit us. We are so excited even though we have no idea what we are going to do hehe Adam made her a painting for her upcoming birthday so I am excited for him to give it to her.

6. I thought I sold my wedding dress and I was really excited to make money and get it out of my house. Don't get me wrong, I loved my wedding dress! If I had a reason to wear it again, I would in a heartbeat but I don't and that dress wasn't cheap so I wish someone would man up and buy it hehe It is the theme with all my wedding stuff. People say they want it but they won't come and actually buy it. Oh well, just a first world problem and not truly a big deal at all.

Chilispiel

Food + competition = always a good time

We went to the 6th annual Chilispiel this past weekend. (I actually went last year but didn't participate or have any idea what was going on)

Normal curling games are 8 ends (like innings, periods, quarters of a game) but this bonspiel we played 3 games of 4 ends. You were put on different teams each time based on your position and you got so many points for winning your game, scoring in an end, etc. At the end, the person with the most points won. It was really fun, relaxed, and such a great day to learn more about this interesting sport. I actually threw some really good shots (the bad thing is at first I didn't even know they were good hehe Everyone was congratulating me and I wasn't sure why. By the end of the day though I understood when it was and when it wasn't a good shot.) I had a lot of fun. Adam and I were not on the same teams at all but we were in the same shift of curlers so it made it nice.

There were two shifts of curlers so between your ends, you ate, voted on chili, drank, and chatted with the people you played with (both your team and the team you played against). Adam and I didn't bring a chili but we brought sweet cornbread, which was a hit. 

Adam and I both got a chance to play with the guy below. His name is Rolf and he still curls at his ripe young age of 81 even though he is mostly blind. He's been curling for 30 years. He's pretty cute. One time during the game, he came over and asked me what I thought the next shot would be. I, of course, had no idea. He told me his thoughts and walked away. It was comical.

 I think this has become my "lucky" headband for curling. I did so much better than usual. (Thanks Katelyn!)

 At the end, there were actually two people tied for first so they had to do a cold draw. I wish I would have gotten a video of everyone banging on the glass and cheering for people. It was awesome. (A cold draw means each person gets one stone to throw to see who can get it closer to the button (center of the circle) without any teammates sweeping or a skipping telling them where to throw the shot.)

A couple weeks ago, my friend Kindra got engaged in this restaurant.

I got to be the wingman a.k.a sneaky. I got into his truck bed (while they were in the restaurant) and put a gift basket in the front seat, a sign on the windshield, and took a gift to the waiter in the back of the restaurant.

Then I waited behind this potted plant to try and get pictures when they walked out.

And I blew it. I was borrowing a lens and didn't have it ready when they came out... Okay the real thing is that I did have it ready but discovered 30 seconds before they came out that it could go infinitely closer so I didn't have it focused on them. Sad day but next time I get to be sneaky, I'll be ready.

Another friend, Katelyn, got engaged the next day but unfortunately I don't have any pictures of that.

Next weekend, I went to Milwaukee because I wanted to.

Adam really likes curling. (excuse the lighting, had it on the wrong setting and didn't feel like editing it.)

There was a chilispiel that weekend. Normally games for curling are called bonspiels but this one was just for fun and was complete with a chili cook-off. What says north more than this?

Best of three. So sometimes I played this game instead of watching every moment.

Had to get the little silver ball on the little tracks numbered 1-100. I got as far as 30 haha It was hard to maneuver it all the way past that. You have to turn it upside down, side ways, diagonal to get it to go where it's supposed to.

What would a chilispiel be without a muffin tin filled with sample cups of each chili?

Ended the weekend with the Superbowl. Go Giants!
